BLUE Cheeseburgers...Why Not?

By Chef Brendan Schiering

We spent National Cheeseburger Day celebrating with BLUE buns and ORANGE sesame seeds on top! Handmade in our Phoenix Test Kitchen by our Head of Culinary Development, Chef Brendan Schiering.

Our goal when creating these fun burger buns was just that; to have fun. Why not have blue burger buns? Why not have pink? We may even argue they tasted better because they were blue... and the orange sesame seeds were a nice touch!

Blue Buns Ingredients:

1 pound all-purpose flour

1 cup water

3 tablespoons melted butter

2 large egg

3 tablespoons granulated sugar

1 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

1 (.25 ounce) packet of active dry yeast

1 teaspoon olive oil

1 tablespoon milk

1 bottle of blue food coloring

Chef Brendan's Instructions:

Begin by adding the water, instant yeast, and a 1/2 cup of flour to your mixing bowl. Mix on low to combine. Add 1 egg, melted butter, sugar, and salt to the mixing bowl, and let mix on low till incorporated. Add 10-15 drops of blue food coloring and the remainder of the flour to the bowl. Let mix for 15 minutes until a ball has formed. Knead dough on a flat surface with flour until it has a smooth and fluffy texture, do not overwork. Place dough ball into a clean bowl, drizzle with a thing layer of olive oil, let rest for about two hours in a warm dry place. Separate dough into small balls, coat with egg wash, and sprinkle sesame seeds on top. Bake using the Ovention Double Milo Oven at 370 degrees for 12 minutes. Slice & ENJOY!
